Oak is a Timeless Classic

When it comes to enduring building materials, oak is a timeless classic. Throughout the ages of innumerable innovations and the development of new building and furnishing materials, oak is still a key feature in many homes.

Many a craftsman will have winced as the ever-popular DIY shows promoted MDF as the answer to everything at one point. Yet, here we are in 2019 with more and more design features, from kitchens to extensions, built with oak as the main material.

The latest ranges of kitchens almost certainly feature oak heavily, from traditional to limed and various shades. A traditional farmhouse kitchen will typically be rich in oak, as will many new hand-built kitchens, created by craftsmen young and old.

And it isn’t just inside the house that oak continues to thrive. Thousands of gardens boast a rich array of oak sleepers used as steps, retaining walls or simply a design feature itself, amongst stone and brickwork. From green oak to original railway sleepers in their tar-soaked glory, properly constructed and treated, these blocks of natural beauty will outlast us all.

Oak simply doesn’t go out of fashion and if anything, it’s making its presence felt even more as the desire to use natural, long-lasting, and sustainable materials grows.

If you’re considering any additional external structure, from home office, garage, to full home extension, oak is worthy of consideration from both an aesthetic and quality perspective.

When it comes to sustainability, it’s essential to check the provenance of your oak timber as not all suppliers are as transparent regarding sourcing as you may think!

We have a number of highly skilled carpenters, joiners and craftsmen here at Parker Home. If you’re considering making home improvements or adding a new and substantial feature to your property, we’d be happy to advise and to provide you with a quotation.
